On November 3, 2024, someone stole my phone. The last 3 months changed my entire life, and turned me - a covetous, cranky, creatively paralyzed bitch - into someone I could actually be proud of.
The two phones idea is genius! I currently have Instagram and Substack on my phone Monday - Thursday and then delete for Friday and the weekend. It works well and I actually crave the weekend days when i don’t have it!
I experienced something similar to this just from deleting Twitter in 2023 (it was my favorite). The idea of a second phone sounds amazing. Thanks for sharing!!
Great article! My version of this, is I can post stuff on socials (insta/fb) through my husband’s phone. I don’t really have a huge problem with scrolling. But I still have to promote, because I’m a musical theater actor and writer and need to sell tickets to various shows etc. this second step of having to login through my husband is enough of a deterrent that it makes my posts more intentional. I’m not perfect at it, sometimes I’m caught holding onto for longer than I need, but it works. 🤓
yes! just having one small barrier to entry makes all the difference. and it’s definitely a different calculation when you need to be consuming and posting to social for work - im in the same boat. so it’s not about quitting entirely, just creating systems that force mindfulness.
I actually just did this myself! I started making content on one phone and using my personal for just family/friends. Really helps me not get sucked into my phone during 9-5 work hours!

Yes!!! Cheers to a social-media-free weekend. The nicest break / escape when you can take it 🌴

Ugh I’m so jealous. I need another phone!!!
salvation is on the other side of a refurbished iphone 11 🙏

Obsessed with this. One of my best friends only lets herself use socials on her iPad and she says it’s the best. I might have to jump on the train…
