Welcome to Interior Motives.
Every Thursday will now be a column for paid readers called “Interior Motives,” where I take you behind-the-scenes of my life, my world, and building my boutique creator and affiliate marketing agency. I’ll share what I’m learning as a bootstrapped founder, how I’m balancing (or trying to balance) living a creative life while taming a fast-growing business, and all of the tensions and lessons along the way. Sometimes I just want to yap/vent/explore without tying my thoughts to some lofty theme or research. Sometimes I’m dealing with a personal problem, or inflection point, that I feel called to unpack here. But this shift, mainly, was inspired by two revelations:
I did a survey a few months back and the results showed that my most loyal and devoted readers want more content about how I think, more frameworks, more personal insight. That said, there’s equal hunger for my bread and butter: cultural analysis through a business lens, interviews, internet and creator economy breakdowns. By keeping Tuesdays as normal programming and launching Interior Motives on Thursdays as paid, I can satisfy everyone 🙂
I recently interviewed Dolly Meckler about her career journey and some of her biggest takeaways in building community with Lena Dunham, HBO and beyond. “People want to be taken along on the ride,” she told me. “They want to be part of your story.” She’s a friend, an expert, and someone I take very seriously. I’d be dumb not to heed her words.
So get in, loser. The ride’s here, it’s bumpy, and I’m screaming…
